About Us

Summary

Youghal Active Retirement Association was formed on May 1st 2019, and is affiliated to Active Retirement Ireland which has over 550 groups in Ireland.
As a voluntary not-for profit organisation, this affiliation provides us with support services and insurance cover for all our meeting and activities.
Our Association now has over 285 members.

Mission

Our mission is to reach out to older people and organise a range of social, recreational and practical activities which will foster a sense of community and mutual support.

Our objectives are the 3hree S’s

1. Social

In the first instance our group is a social gathering which allows members to meet, chat and become involved in a range of local recreational activities. This includes walking, Pilates, t’ai chi, yoga, book clubs, painting, cinema and coffee mornings, all with an emphasis on mindfulness and wellbeing.

We also organise trip and outings:

  • Town trips to points of interest in Youghal
  • Day trips to wider areas within day access of the town
  • Away trips to all parts of the country

We want to develop social and recreational activities for our member

2. Support

We provide support and information to our members in areas such as personal well-being, safety and security, health issues, or any other issue that may be of concern to them.
We provide assistance in the event of an emergency, and we have a number of volunteers that are ready to respond as required.

We are registered with Pobal as an agent for the Seniors Alert Scheme, which provides an emergency alarm system for elderly people.

We want to develop our own support community in YARA

3. Society

While developing our own community we want to reach out and make an active contribution to the wider community.

Our members provide volunteer support services to community groups such as Blue and Green, Tidy Towns, Clean Coasts, Happy Feet, and other local groups.

We are interested in creating and developing local awareness of our Association, particularly with other relevant groups and with younger people.
In this way, we hope to be part of, and make a contribution, to the wider community.
