Welcome to our Monthly News. The weather was balmy in September, and we continued our outdoor activities with coastal walks, opera in Green Park, town tours, river trips on the Blackwater, and a great trip to Dromana House.

Opera in Green Park

The Blackwater Opera Festival staged a lunchtime recital in Green Park on the first Saturday in September – and what a show!
Almost an hour of top-quality light opera and topical classics, and the big turn-out of YARA members loved it.
The festival organisers promise to come back next year with an even bigger event – bring on 2022!

River Trip

This month we had the last of our river trips and Tony really puled out all the stops, giving us the history, culture and environmental value of the river.
We often forget what a wonderful resource we have on our doorstep.

Chair Yoga

During the month we had our first Chair Yoga course, delivered over four weeks by Blathnaid Foley in Bru na Si. Sixteen members took part, and all the chairs survived the huge exertion involved!
By popular demand, we will be repeating this course over the winter months – so just don’t sit back and slouch – sit up and streeetch!

Digital Training Course

Covid really proved one thing – you needed to be digitally aware to stay connected to loved ones and communicate with government services. However, many people found that they did not have the digital skills to cope with this new reality. We have now developed a specialised training course to help our members link up with the world using smartphones, tablets and PC’s.
we will provide a range of training courses to help our members learn how to effectively connect with the digital world.

Day Trip to Dromana House

We had a wonderful day trip to Dromana House and Gardens last week. This is really one of Ireland’s hidden history gems; perched high over the Blackwater and with a star-studded history cast dating back to the 13th century.

Cinema Morning

We had out first cinema morning of the season on Thursday last with a special screening of the recently released film “Respect”.
We will have a full schedule of cinema events over the winter months.

Membership of YARA

We now have 158 members in YARA. We continue to expand our range of activities and we are now planning our indoor schedule as restrictions are lifted.
Please contact us if you would like to join YARA – you are never too young as you will grow into it!

Our YARA support group is still available for members who may need help – this includes grocery runs, books through the library, or emergency maintenance work, or you can always call us just to have a chat…
