YARA Newsletter – 8th January 2021

We would like to wish everybody a very happy, healthy and safe new year.

Looking back on 2020 YARA had a great year and despite the lockdown, we had numerous events and activities.

We would like to say a special thank you to all our members who continue to support the Association and contribute their time so willingly.

January is that time of year when we again renew our subscriptions for YARA.

Our annual fee for this year will remain at €15 per person and an eye-watering €25 per couple – fantastic value for all the events and activities we organise over the year. We will be sending out a membership form to all our members next week, but we would also welcome new members – adults only need apply!

We are delighted to receive support from Youghal Credit Union and our shot shows Tommy Crowley presenting a copy of the YARA 2021 calendar to Kieran Quinn.

Just over twelve months ago YARA became the local agent for the Seniors Alert Scheme – a government-run scheme that provides personal emergency alarms for senior citizens.

The scheme is managed by Helen Coen, and we have now organised over 100 installations. To celebrate this great achievement Helen was presented with a surprise floral bouquet by Chair Phyllis Foley.

YARA members were again invited to take part in the Winter Solstice on the shortest day of the year, December 21st. The event took place in Green Park and the Witches of Youghal celebrated in the time-honoured ceremony which marks the “return of the light” and the arrival of the new year.

During the month of November, we supported the Meals on Wheels fundraising drive and thanks to the generosity of our members we raised €660.00. Well done to all our members!

Finally, remember that during the lockdown our YARA support group is available for members who may need help – this includes grocery runs, books through the library, or emergency maintenance work, or you can always call us just to have a chat…
